Bell Schedules
Our School Schedule
At South Bronx Early College Academy, we are intentional about how we structure time to support academic growth, enrichment, and individualized learning.
Weekly Bell Schedule
-
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday:
Students follow a full academic schedule with seven periods, including core classes, electives, ILT (Individualized Learning Time), and advisory. -
Wednesday (Shortened Day):
Wednesdays feature a modified schedule that ends by 2:12 PM. Students attend all core subjects in shorter periods and participate in specialized arts programming, advisory, and lunch. This schedule also supports ongoing staff professional development.
Sample Student Schedules
Here’s a snapshot of what a typical day might look like for students in each grade:
6th Grade
-
All students take one semester of Art and one semester of Music to build a foundation in the arts.
-
Students are enrolled in core content classes (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies), along with Advisory and ILT, which provides academic support based on student need.
-
Elective options may include Urban Gardening, Drama, Intro to Coding, and/or Student Council.
7th Grade
-
Students continue with core content classes, Advisory, and ILT.
-
Students who have expressed interest in applying to visual arts high schools, or have been identified as strong candidates, receive portfolio support through a specialized art elective.
-
Similar enrichment opportunities are offered to students pursuing interests in the performing arts.
8th Grade
-
Students may begin Regents-level coursework in Algebra I, Living Environment, and U.S. History, preparing them for high school acceleration and early college pathways.
-
Elective options remain diverse, and students continue to receive support through ILT and advisory.
What Is ILT?
Individualized Learning Time (ILT) is a key part of our support model. ILT is designed to meet students where they are, using progress monitoring data to guide instruction. While groupings are typically stable, they can change throughout the year based on student performance and need. ILT time can be used for remediation, enrichment, or targeted practice aligned to each student’s academic goals. Every student has Math ILT twice a week and ELA ILT twice a week
